We proudly announce the arrival of our son Jonathan Daniel West – born on Wednesday, August 4 at 9:38 am. We appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers received as baby "JD" was kept in the NICU for most of our hospital stay with fluid in his lungs. January announcement

January is a busy time around here with daycare and preschool enrollment starting up again for 2010! Thanks everyone for your patience as we've been processing orders a little bit slower than usual. Not to mention that I've been dealing with some terrible, terrible nausea lately because....[drum roll]....

We're expecting another baby in mid-August! Yay! We were a little nervous about this at first considering that August is an extremely busy time for Cherry Hill Designs with it being back-to-school rush season and all. Plus my husband Johnny starts teaching again in August. But, we're trusting that God has a plan for our family, this new baby, and our business. We're excited to see how God will creatively provide for us in this crazy time. We'll keep you posted.

Anyway, the January rush is dying down a bit, so we should be on normal turnarounds in February. We appreciate all of our wonderful customers! Thanks so much!!!

We've had several requests, so I thought I'd post an update regarding our holiday production schedule. We're currently running on a 3-4 business day turnaround, plus shipping time (2-5 days depending on the service level).

It's not too late to order designer holiday photo cards and mail them before Christmas. Just allow 5-7 days from order date to delivery. If you order holiday cards after December 9, I'd suggest upgrading your shipment to Priority or Express (overnight) delivery.

Don't forget...our household labels, waterproof labels, and stationery products make great personalized holiday gifts! Remember to upgrade shipping to Priority or Overnight shipping if you place a gift order after December 12, to ensure delivery before Christmas. Melisa at LittleBitShabby.etsy.com tells me our popular iron on labels made it to the front page on Etsy.com yesterday! Too bad I didn't even get to see it! I'm told these labels were selected as an item that's perfect for back-t0-school gear. We couldn't agree more!

One year old!

It's hard to believe that our little red-head will be a year old tomorrow. What a crazy year. She's getting to be a lot of fun, with loads of personality.

Finally! Iron-on Clothing Labels!

Okay so you've been asking me for iron-on labels for YEARS, and I've been testing new materials and processes ever since. It's been challenging to find a smooth material that works on many types of fabrics -- that can also be easily applied at home with a regular iron instead of a commercial heat press. Many, many samples did not hold up.

But, I've been testing this new label since January, ironing samples on tons of things that get washed more than once a week...Johnny's soccer jerseys, Caroline's pajamas, blue jeans, etc... We found that these labels hold up great in the wash and are still going strong -- even on knits! Poor Johnny just has to deal with these cute little polka-dot labels on all of his things now...sorry, babe.

Studio makeover - part one

Slowly our home office/studio is getting a facelift. And thanks to ByGing (Ginger Galloway's Etsy shop) and some Pottery Barn fabric I found on sale, I have my new inspiration for our studio makeover.

Ginger made a custom, reversible slipcover for my plain black office chair. I LOVE it! I've been searching high and low (okay, really just IKEA -- but several visits) for a cute office chair that is as comfortable as my chair at home. No such thing. So I posted a custom request for a simple office chair slipcover with side ties on Etsy's alchemy site, and ByGing delivered! Ginger even made some matching coasters for me. Our next project will be custom drapes.

So now I'm inspired to paint the walls, get some new lamps, finish the floors, and do some more spring cleaning...in my "spare" time, of course. I figured if I made blog post about our studio's need for a makeover, I'd actually carve some time out for redecorating this year. I'm sure Johnny can't wait to help me get started...hahaha. But, honey, it's all tax deductible!

Annual Marshmallow War

Every Easter the Calandro family has an annual MARSHMALLOW WAR in my sister Jody's backyard. This past Easter was Caroline's first real war and we thought she'd get scared, but she LOVED it.

Caroline was cracking up at all of the adults and kids running around, yelling, screaming and hurling marshmallows at each other. She thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen. Then all she wanted to do was eat the marshmallows. Maybe next year, she'll be old enough to participate. Good times.

Fundraiser for Cancer Services

A few of you who have been following me on Twitter may know that my sister Pam lost her battle with cancer last May. In honor of her birthday this month and the one-year anniversary of her call home to be with her Savior, I've decided to unveil a new design for the spring called "Sailor Suit" and donate the proceeds from this line to an organization that Pam valued tremendously through 7-year her battle - Cancer Services.

Cancer Services is hands-on with every cancer patient they encounter. Their outreach provides not only prescription assistance, prostheses and wigs to cancer patients in need, but also transportation to and from medical appointments, counseling for both patients and families, medical supplies, and the list goes on. No matter what income level and insurance coverage, anyone who has been touched by this disease knows how expensive treatments and supplies can be, and Cancer Services is one organization committed to helping alleviate the huge stress on cancer patients. Let's help raise some money so they can keep up the good work!

I recently placed an order on Etsy (love that site!) for some personalized felt hair clips for my daughter Caroline. She barely has any hair, but I'm hopeful.

Oddly enough, the lady who makes them actually lives in my neighborhood -- just a few blocks away! She's even bought sippy cup labels from me. Small world! Anyway, she makes these really cute, personalized felt hair clips and adorable custom felt birthday crowns, among several other cute things. She can make any color too!

Grace of Cakes

Okay, so... here's where I get to brag a little bit. My talented, entrepreneurial niece Grace Emden just started her own business making cakes. (Just about everyone in my huge, Italian family has their own business.)

But to simply use the word "cake" to describe her creations is grand understatement. Have you seen Duff and the gang on Food Network's "Ace of Cakes"? Well, Grace is certainly a contender for Duff's next employee...but who needs Duff? She's got her own biz!

Her latest creation...a monstrous replica of the Raymond James Stadium and Superbowl XLIII was raffled off at her work. All proceeds benefited the American Cancer Society in honor of her departed grandparents (my mom and dad). Isn't Grace adorable? I wish I could afford to hire her to design stationery.

One of my favorite things in this world is receiving Christmas cards and displaying them in our house for everyone to see. It's one of the many reasons why I delight in making Christmas cards every year. And this past holiday season, my friends and family did not let me down! Even Katina, who usually mails her Christmas cards in April, came through for us in 2008 with a beautiful card full of great pics!

Thank you everyone for your thoughtfulness. I love seeing everyone's photos and reading your letters. I save every card and sometimes compare your pictures from the previous year...watching your kiddos grow before my eyes. However, I do believe it's time to invest in some new card holders this coming Christmas...our little angels are so chock-full you can't even see some of our beautiful cards.

Even if I didn't design your cards, of course, I still enjoy receiving them. But I have to admit...I do give the prime "real estate" on my card holders to the cards made by Cherry Hill Designs. It's a marketing thing, you know.

If you didn't send me a card this year, that's totally okay. There's always next Christmas : )

Okay, it's been a while since I've blogged for Cherry Hill Designs. I could use the excuse that just I had a baby. But Caroline is 6 months old now, so that would be pretty lame -- especially since Caroline has had an EXTENSIVE website since birth at web.me.com/angiecherryhi.

Anyway, happy to be back in the blogosphere. I decided a brand new blog would be a great way to showcase some of my work and let our valued clients know about special events or discount offers.
